Ethics

ASAB has a long-standing concern for the treatment of animals in research and teaching. We believe that it is our responsibility to minimise any possible suffering and to support the conservation of the animals we study.

What we do

  • Promote the ethical treatment of animal subjects used in research.

  • Advise ASAB Council and members on ethical issues which affect them in the process of designing and conducting ethological research.

  • Advise the scientific and teaching community on current best practice with respect to the treatment of animals used in research and teaching.

  • Ethically review scientific papers submitted to the journal Animal Behaviour. Note that we do not oversee adherence to these guidelines for work submitted to journals other than Animal Behaviour.
