Wills & Legacies

ASAB is a charity registered in the UK whose aim is to promote the study of Animal Behaviour. Each year it supports conferences, workshops, education and research by distributing funds via a range of grants, scholarships & prizes, carefully judged through peer review and impartial committees before being awarded. (Details of these can be found on our Grants page and further information can be obtained from the Treasurer or the Secretary of the Grants Committee). For some members, ASAB feels like their academic family, nurturing their career and members may like to give something back by remembering ASAB in their Will.

If you would like to support ASAB’s work after your death, you can do so by leaving either a fixed sum or a proportion of the residuary of your estate (the sum remaining after bills and specific legacies etc are paid).

If you choose to do so it is important that the information below is included in your Will, in particular the Charity number as this allows the charity to be found if the registered address changes:

Name of Beneficiary: Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour
UK Registered Charity Number: 268494
Registered Address: Prof M Siva-Jothy, ASAB Treasurer, School of BioSciences, The University of Sheffield, Sheffield, S10 2TN, UK

The wording below may also be a useful guide when discussing your affairs with your legal advisor:

“I give the sum of £_____ (or “I give __% of my estate) to the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (registered charity No. 268494) for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the said Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy”

Thank you for considering remembering ASAB in your Will. If you have questions, you are welcome to contact ASAB’s Treasurer in confidence.  Please note that we are not able to provide specific legal advice.
